Youth Camp Fundraiser
When bake sales and car washes no longer cover our expenses, we turn to nature. With the help of a long time Florida icon, the pink flamingo, we recruited about a hundred of these pink plastic pests to invade the homes of prominent church members as a reminder to support our efforts to raise funds to send our youth to summer camp. For a modest donation of $15, church members can purchase flamingo insurance to ensure the flock does not come visit their lawns at home. Don't have insurance? You take the chance that all hundred of these fundraising dustmops roost on your lawn overnight. If they do, then YOU"VE BEEN FLOCKED! Getting rid of them is not easy. It takes a cleanup crew that charges $20. But along with your payment, you get to choose who will be the next victim to be flocked. Don't get caught unprepared. Take a look at some of the victims who did not have insurance in this album:

Walking the Cancer Walk
The youth group at First United Methodist Church of Dunnellon has up close experience with cancer where one of our grandparents, Lois Hill, has ovarian cancer that spread to her stomach and has finished chemotherapy and awaits test results. Meanwhile, one of our moms, Karen Cochran, is battling breast cancer and is soon to receive chemotherapy. As a group, we discussed what it must be like to lose all our hair as cancer patients often do. So, we decided to show our support to these and other cancer patients who so bravely fight this disease that threatens their lives and affects all family and friends. Some of us made personal decisions to walk in their shoes to experience what just a little of what cancer patients go through. We will walk their walk on the road from cancer patient to their destination, cancer survivors.
This was an enlightening experience for the youth group. It really opened our eyes as to what cancer patients have to go through when they begin chemotherapy. Some of us have never grasped the idea of what it is like to lose your hair; until some of us made the sacrifice to shed all or some of our hair. Some of the girls are even donating to Locks of Love.
Our thought in doing this was to show support to those going through this process of loosing their hair. We wanted to show the compassion that Jesus shows us each and every day! He paid the ultimate price - we only gave up our hair
